We received this letter last week from a subscriber in Aotearoa/New Zealand:
Dear Â鶹´«Ã½,
Firstly, apologies for the delay in renewing my sub. I've enclosed part payment of $22 instead of the minimum sea mail rate of $50. Due to present circumstances this is the most I can afford at the moment and will only be able to subscribe for 10 or so issues at a time. I would like to say I realise you are not a charity, and have your own costs to meet. I am committed to continue subscribing to Â鶹´«Ã½, though as you can imagine, after paying out for rent, groceries, and other cost of living expenses there isn't much left over from $138 [per week on the dole].
For me, Â鶹´«Ã½ is an 'antidote' to the all pervasive right wing media in this part of the country You report stories that in the mainstream media are either ignored, or completely distorted, like East Timor, or the recent United States actions against Cuba.
As someone who has recently 'come out', your coverage of Gay and Lesbian issues from a socialist perspective is much appreciated. I enjoy the cultural dissent section of the paper and have noted a couple of books to get (when finances improve!).
PS. The Venceremos supplement on Mexico, Brazil & Nicaragua was excellent reading.
