The Australian government has shown the depth of its support for Israel’s war on Palestine with Foreign Affairs Minister, Penny Wong’s announcement on 27th January 2024 that Australia would freeze funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), following Israel's allegations that members of UNRWA were involved in Hamas’ attacks on October 7.
Since 1949, UNRWA has provided essential food, medical care, schooling, and social services to 2.1million Palestinian refugees. Australia’s decision to freeze funding to UNRWA is an act of collective punishment of all Palestinians.
Over 26,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli attacks since October 7. The International Justice Court (ICJ) ruling found that there is a plausible case that Israel is committing genocide.
Australia has granted 350 defense export permits to Israel since 2017 and has contributed parts to the F-35 fighter jets that have bombed Gaza. In 2022, the Victorian government also signed a memorandum of understanding with Israel's defense industry.
This rally has been called by Victoria-based members of ASU Members for Palestine, a rank-n-file group of workers in the Australian Services Union organising to end Israel’s genocide in Gaza and for a free Palestine!

3. A permanent end to Israel’s genocidal war on Palestine and Gaza
4. An end to Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine, an end to apartheid and ethnic cleansing, and for the Right of Return of Palestinian refugees
