Tens of thousands marched through Dublin on September 24 calling for abortion rights, reported the next day.聽Marchers carried banners calling on the Irish government to 鈥渞epeal the 8th,鈥 the amendment to the Irish constitution which gives foetuses a 鈥渞ight to life鈥 deemed equal with that of pregnant women, rendering almost all abortions illegal.

This Easter marks 100 years since Ireland's Easter Rising, when republicans launched an armed insurrection against British rule. Seizing Dublin's General Post Office, the rebels proclaimed an Irish republic based on the principles of freedom and equality.
