A new book by Naomi Klein, one of the leading left journalists in North America and author of such important treatises as聽No Logo,听The Shock Doctrine 补苍诲听This Changes Everything, is not something you wants to miss 鈥 especially when it is on the 2016 US election and the rise of Donald Trump.

Just days after US President Donald Trump Qatar for being a "high level" exporter of regional terrorism in the Middle East, the Qatari government announced on June 14 it had signed a deal to buy $12 billion worth of F-15 fighter jets from US weapons makers.

Here鈥檚 my two cents worth on Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull鈥檚 leaked impersonation of US President Donald Trump.

If you are prime minister and you are going to do a private impersonation of Trump you could pick a better occasion than the Parliamentary Mid-Winter Ball which is packed with drunken politicians, journos and political advisers. So it is a mighty stretch to call it a leak.

However, if you are a conservative, hollow-man prime minister, down in the polls, the 鈥渓eak鈥 of a recording of the said impersonation might be a welcome circuit breaker.

Recent weeks have brought to the fore two main issues concerning US President Donald Trump.

The first was his doubling down on one central theme of his election campaign 鈥 economic nationalism. This was found in his charge that most of the rest of the world is somehow 鈥渆xploiting鈥 the United States 鈥 and he will fight back.

The second is his drive to establish himself as an authoritarian president, the 鈥渟trongman鈥 who can take on the dysfunction in the two capitalist parties that dominate US politics.

At the recent G7 summit, held May 26-27 in Taormina, Italy, US President Donald Trump said the US was going to leave the Paris Agreement on climate change, a move that may have a devastating effect for the whole planet.

In response to Trump鈥檚 declarations, German Chancellor Angela Merkel labelled Trump and British Prime Minister Theresa May as unreliable partners, saying 鈥渨e must fight for our own future on our own, for our destiny as Europeans鈥.

Withdrawing from the United Nations Paris Climate Accord is one of more than 100 electoral campaign promises that Donald Trump made. By delivering on that promise, the US joined Nicaragua and Syria, the only countries that did not sign the agreement.

Nicaragua鈥檚 decision to not sign was not due to any indifference or denialism of climate change. Rather, the Central American nation鈥檚 reason was the contrary. It was based on its view that the agreement was not enough to address the climate crisis. Syria is in the middle of civil war and under US and European sanctions.

On May 30, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull was the first of the 鈥渃oalition of the willing鈥 to declare he would support US President Donald Trump鈥檚 request for more occupying troops in Afghanistan. Sydney Stop the War Coalition issued this statement which is abridged below.

As President Donald Trump聽delivered his聽in June 1 of withdrawing the United States from Paris climate agreement, environmental group 350.org laid out steps for an energised people's movement that could 鈥渞ise up like never before鈥 and stop the anti-science White House from destroying the planet.

Two murders and an attempted murder in Portland, Oregon, on the first day of Ramadan (May 26), by a white racist are the latest in a string of hate crimes inspired by President Donald Trump鈥檚 racist rhetoric and actions since he took office.

Heidi Beirich of the Southern Poverty Law Center, which keeps track of hate crimes, told Democracy Now! on May 30: 鈥淧resident Trump, whose words in the campaign unleashed against immigrants, against Muslims and others, unleashed a wave of hate crimes and bias incidents, especially right after the election.

US President Donald Trump fired FBI director James Comey for one reason: he was not 100% loyal to Trump. The boldness of the move was to underscore Trump鈥檚 drive to establish an increasingly authoritarian presidency.

We live in strange times. A white, nationalist, billionaire businessperson has been elected president. His 24-member cabinet is made up primarily of wealthy white men, many former Goldman Sachs executives, who US President Donald Trump鈥檚 most extreme nationalist ideologues call 鈥淣ew York liberals.鈥 Trump has appointed the fewest number of women and minorities to his cabinet since Ronald Reagan.
