MELBOURNE — This year's 3CR Radiothon will be held June 13-26. The station has been broadcasting for 18 years, providing a voice for many groups and interests which find it hard to gain access to the establishment media.
More than 100 organisations, including trade unions and ethnic, environmental, social justice, arts, music and recreational groups, are regular programmers and supporters of 3CR. To ensure that these groups continue to have a voice, 3CR takes no advertising or sponsorship from government or business. It relies instead on its supporters.
Each week there are 130 different programs which present news, commentary, culture, interviews, current affairs, special interest issues and music, as well as 42 hours of programs presented in languages other than English.
This year, 3CR will move its transmitter to a new permanent site, though the studios are staying in Smith St.
What this means for us, the listeners, is better reception. 3CR will also be able to cover more of Melbourne. This means an even bigger audience for its many programs.
All this is very expensive and so 3CR needs your help during the "On The Move Radiothon". Donations can be made payable to 3CR, PO Box 1277, Collingwood 3066. Donations of $2 or more are tax deductible.
